Too late for the hero(es)
ulicknormanowen6 January 2021
A comedy about the right to live your love affair freely or to please the parents and their old hat moral to get married first (the first scene ,when Lhermitte beats it in a hurry when his baby's folks are calling on her, is the only real comic moment in the whole flick)...But in 1981, it was already obsolete ,it came a decade too late ...

Lhermitte and Adjani are charming but the supporting characters get in the way ,particularly the latter's friends (when they have their dinner between girls ,it's so unbearable that you feel like pushing the fast forward button .)

It's so derivative one regrets that the screenwriters did not use Maxime's imaginary life (he makes comic strips with a hero called Major Gutterhill ) more convincingly ;here it leads to a trite success story .
