North Country Fair

There has been plentiful negative comment north of the border about Disney's ersatz Canada at EPCOT Center's World Showcase in Florida. The consensus is that it reinforces the country's "hoser image". An exception to this is "O Canada", yet another variation on Disney's familiar Circle Vision screen experience.

"O Canada" is a cross country ride from the giant tides of Fundy Bay in the Maritimes to the Banff Springs Hotel west of Calgary. The storyline is neatly divided between English and French Canada, with narrators specific to each staying out of one another's way. Uniquely, the film's theme song contains stanzas in both languages.

Someone wrote some interesting organ music for a procession up the center aisle at Montreal's Catholic cathedral. Sound designers cleverly captured the sounds of skating and slapshooting during an outdoor hockey game. About all that's missing is a curling bonspiel.

Like most of Disney's mini-films, this one probably will need an update in the near future.

O Canada! needs an update.

This is a nice Circle Vision 360 film. However, it is a bit outdated and the narrator has a ridiculous French accent. The scenes are breathtaking, and it is played in a relaxing, air conditioned theater at EPCOT. This is one that should not be missed.

Makes you want to take the next plane to Canada!

This CircleVision 360 movie is one of Walt Disney Productions finest travel films. Playing at the Canadian pavilion at Epcot in Walt Disney World since 1982, this beautiful film shows the highlights of Canada...from Fundy Bay to Montreal, and Toronto to Vancouver.

Dopey, dated, and cliché.

I'm sure this was one of those "WOAH!" attractions in 1982 when Epcot opened, but now it's just silly. The film's message is cliché. The Circle-Vision is disorienting. And that awful song at the end is grating. And I really wish they'd install seats. After so much walking, all you want to do is sit down for a few minutes. And when you hear there's a film to see it sounds pretty glamorous! You get entertained while sitting down, right? WRONG! You're standing there for 18+ minutes leaning against a short little railing. Disney should make a newer Maelstrom like attraction to liven things up and replace this dull, lackluster film. NOT FUN. Skip it. In fact, skip Canada altogether unless you're eating there. Move directly to the United Kingdom.

A great travelogue

This is one of the best Circlevision films I've seen in a Walt Disney attraction. Most of the film is dedicated to the natural beauty of Canada, which is breathtaking from the eastern maritimes to the Canadian rockies and everything inbetween. Some of the city scenes are slightly outdated because it was made in 1982, but this could easily be updated, as they recently did with the new version of "Reflections of China" (another excellent travelogue)
