When it comes to Batman flicks, there is one that stands out as a notorious flop: Batman & Robin, starring George Clooney as the caped crusader. The 1997 film currently has a dismal 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is often considered the most disappointing Batman flick ever made.
Not everyone, though, concurs with this evaluation. Enter Josh Brolin, whose affinity for the superhero genre isn’t exactly a secret, and of course, his portrayal of Thanos is something that will never be forgotten. The actor, 56, did defend Clooney’s portrayal of the caped crusader.
But is Bruce Wayne in Batman & Robin, played by Clooney, truly the worst Batman in live-action?

Though Clooney’s breakout role on NBC’s ER was much deeper than that, his portrayal of Bruce Wayne in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin is akin to the TV heartthrob cliché.

28 Years Later, an upcoming zombie film trilogy that fans have been clamoring for 17 years is finally becoming a reality. However, the long-awaited announcement of the new trilogy had some disappointing news. Cillian Murphy, who starred in the original movie, 28 Days Later, and an executive producer of the film will not be a part of the first film.
Cillian Murphy as Dr J. Robert Oppenheimer
Even though Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have put their project as one of the hottest upcoming films in Hollywood, fans are quite disappointed with Murphy’s absence in the first film. While the Oppenheimer actor will not be a part of the first film, fans of the upcoming post-apocalyptic film should not be disappointed as there’s some positive news for them. Batman is not only arguably the greatest superhero but also one of the most iconic fictional characters of all time. Known for brooding intensity, detective prowess, and a cape that billows dramatically in the night, Batman has won audiences for decades across live-action films, comic book panels, and the world of animation.

Within the DC Animated Universe (Dcau), Batman reached a level of excellence that many consider unmatched. However, even the brilliance of Bruce Timm, the visionary force behind the Dcau, couldn’t guarantee success for one movie which is now considered one of the greatest superhero films.

Warner Bros. Animation has produced multiple animated shows with their most popular character Batman as the protagonist. Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series was one of the defining shows based on the character that has a long-lasting legacy. The show starred Kevin Conroy as the Caped Crusader and was the beginning of the Dcau.
From 2004 to 2008, The Batman animated series aired as another show centered around Bruce Wayne’s exploits as Batman. The show was not part of th Timmverse and had to distinguish itself from the legendary shows of the Dcau. One way in which the producers of the show made it happen was by making Wayne’s diet include snacks and other relatable food that anyone would eat while in a hurry.

Whenever it comes to the Dcau, fans often look back to Bruce Timm’s masterful work on Batman: The Animated Series, which by many is still considered the peak of the caped crusader. However, the Dcau isn’t just limited to Btas, as there have been several different interpretations of the iconic character in the realm of animation, with one of them being The Batman.
Not to be confused with Matt Reeves’ The Batman, The Batman Animated Series was a fun reimagining of Batman and its coterie of supervillains, which scored well critically throughout its run. One thing that fans found odd about the show was the introduction of Batgirl as Bruce’s first sidekick, but the writers can’t be blamed for this decision.

In a world where Superhero Cartoons and Disney features dominated the TV scene, Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Z helped anime to make it into the mainstream. While anime and manga were already introduced in the United States, and shows like Astro Boy or Voltron were already popular, it wasn’t until Toriyama’s Dragon Ball successor came about that anime became a staple part of popular culture and helped lay the foundation of the current anime frenzy.

Even in this age of instant YouTube gratification, movie trailers are a big deal. They get us hyped for an upcoming project by making promises that the eventual film will (hopefully) pay off. The best sizzle reels are even able to do this by giving a taste of things to come without ruining any surprises or plot twists. Think about the teaser for Alien with its cracking egg and unnerving siren sound, or the deft use of a choral version of Radiohead’s “Creep” in the classic promo for The Social Network. Both of those examples speak to the haunting nature of their movies while allowing space for the film to stand on its own down the road.
But some trailers do their job too well. Some trailers outdo the movies they advertise, sometimes because the film has a concept too shallow to sustain more than three minutes, and sometimes...

Very few directors have ever had the kind of run Rob Reiner did as a director between 1984 and 1992. Think about it. This is Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men. Surely, that run alone would be enough to solidify him as one of the greatest Hollywood directors of all time? Those movies are so good it almost doesn’t matter how much money-losing crap he puts out now…and there is a lot of it… and North isn’t even the worst of it! So how did this man go from making a few great movies that defined and elevated our pop culture on so many different levels to suddenly pumping out nothing but heartless, soulless political flicks (did anyone see Lbj?) and rom-coms that are neither romantic nor comedic?
So, how did this jack of...

This article contains spoilers for "X-Men '97."
I'm the precise age to have been introduced to the Marvel Universe by animation and film. Back then in the bygone 2000s, superhero movies never crossed over and the best that us wee fans could hope for was, say, the X-Men playing guest star on "Spider-Man" for an episode or two. I've now evolved into a curmudgeon who thinks superhero cinema could use more individuality and less interconnectivity, but I digress.
All this is to say that "X-Men '97" episode 7, "Bright Eyes," featured the sort of brief guest appearance that would've made 10-year-old me super-excited: Rogue meets Captain America (Josh Keaton). You might recall that Cap appeared back in the original "X-Men" cartoon; the season 5 episode, "Old Soldiers," showed him and Wolverine on a mission together in World War II. We've known for two weeks that Cap would be showing up (thanks to...

In the 90 years since his creation, Superman has had many different versions. There have been many to stand out from these, for good and bad reasons. Perhaps one of the most controversial has to be Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, which is a darker version of the character. While many fans loved the fresher approach, there were many fundamental changes made that completely went against the character’s philosophy.

The Dcau started off as a single animated series that eventually grew into the cinematic universe that we know today. Kevin Conroy, the legendary voice actor who voiced the role of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series, had a huge impact on the cinematic universe.
Dcau legend Alan Burnett, who has been the producer of almost every DC animated production ever, feels the same way. Talking about the future of the animated universe, especially with the upcoming movies, Burnett and screenwriter Paul Dini couldn’t help but award Conroy with praises and love.

Tom Cruise and Robert Pattinson are two of the most iconic actors in Hollywood, with one climbing the ladder like there’s no tomorrow and the other ruling over it. While the two of them have never shared the big screen together, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they haven’t met either. Out of the many movies that both of them have individually done, it was a small skit that brought them together.
Robert Pattinson in The Batman (2022)

There is no denying that any animated project is as good as its voice-over artists. Luckily, the Dcau has never come across an ‘L’ when it comes to finding the right person to voice the characters. They have Andrea Romano to thank for that. Landing the role of the Joker would undoubtedly be an ‘I made it’ moment for any actor. But for Kevin Michael Richardson, stepping over the shoes of his idol, Mark Hamill, who arguably is the best Joker the DC Animated Universe has ever seen, made him hesitant.

When it comes to the classics of cinema—and sometimes the dregs—it’s always fun to think about what might’ve been. Casting especially can be a strange alchemy between actor and role, and when the formula is off, it’s easy to ponder whether the spell would work at all. Can you imagine Robert Redford as Michael Corleone? What about Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones? And it’s an interesting challenge to envision what Tim Burton’s Batman might’ve been if it starred Bill Murray versus Robin Williams.

He plays Neo in the film; a former sad sack hacker who discovers he’s actually a superpowered messiah sent to free us from a digital prison.

For many fans, Bruce Timm’s Dcau gave the most definitive version of Batman. Matt Reeves’ The Batman took inspiration from Timm’s dark and gritty tone of the character in Batman: The Animated Series. Timm proved that he could develop feature-length animated movies, debuting with the Batman movie, Mask of the Phantasm. However, Timm never once got the call from DC or WB to create a live-action Batman film.

When Christopher Nolan Revealed That Tom Hardy Based His Menacing ‘Bane’ On The Dark Knight Rises Maker ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
People wait eagerly for any and every Christopher Nolan movie, and his Batman movies starring Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne are still considered one of the best comic book films ever. It gave us the classic villain in Heath Ledger’s Joker, and Tom Hardy as Bane was also quite memorable. Hardy did an exceptional job as the anti-hero in The Dark Knight Rises. 1986's "Top Gun" decidedly propelled Tom Cruise toward stardom, while the actor had already made his mark with "Risky Business" and "The Color of Money," two films that helped underline his dynamic range as a performer before his rise to fame. From this point on, Cruise would go on to star in a string of projects that cemented his superstar status, but like any performer, a few films failed to impress audiences and critics for many reasons. No, I am not talking about the disastrous "The Mummy" — the first and final entry in the doomed Dark Universe — but the lowest-rated Tom Cruise film, at least according to Rotten Tomatoes. I'm talking about Roger Donaldson's 1988 film about making drinks and money: "Cocktail," which currently sports an abysmal 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.

While aimed at kids, Dcau was no stranger to crossing boundaries by incorporating s-xual innuendos and double entendres into their shows in order to keep the adults hooked. Although Batman: The Animated Series, which started it all, and its successor had their fair share of adult jokes packed into them, with Justice League Unlimited, Bruce TImm took it a step further.
This was a result of the plethora of romantic subplots that were incorporated into the series, which also involved a surprising romance arc between Green Lantern and Hawkgirl. Later elaborating on it, Timm revealed it was a result of their experiment with the show’s format.
