An art film that really defies you to understand its symbolism
planktonrules24 August 2008
I watched this short film on a rather bizarre collection of short films entitled "Short #7: Utopia". All the films supposedly had a vision of Utopia, but in reality only a few (such as this one) did and the DVD was packaged in a very strange and artsy manner.

LION AND LAMB was filmed in Montreal and I only learned this when I re-watched it with the director's commentary (by Luc Buchamp). This would explain why the film looked American and European at the same time. However, other than that, the director's commentary was almost as confusing as this film. It's supposed to be about the US and USSR and the idea of hope and peace(?!). You see lots of black and white images and some occasional colored traffic signals but the overall message defied my ability to understand it. And, when Buchamp explained I still didn't get it. However, at least he intended this to be an artsy piece and not a commercially distributed film, so I can at least appreciate that he's trying to experiment with his craft. About the only thing I particularly liked was the camera-work. Sorry Luc.
