A desperate journo will do anything for a story!
uds328 November 2001
Saw this movie at a preview screening many years ago. One of those strange pictures that is well made, capably scripted and directed, yet remains a rather underwhelming proposition.

The story of a journo, down on his creativity and opportunity, probably due in no small part to the former. Not the most scrupulous of his profession, he conspires to pervert the course of Parliament by setting up one of the senators. Things do not go according to plan A, and he soon finds himself anywhere but in control. Unfortunately he does not HAVE a back-up Plan B.

Before you can say, "Hold it, I lied!" he is caught up in a dastardly plot to assassinate the Leader of the Opposition!

Maybe after a few beers it gets better!

Long Forgotten Australian Political Drama
zombie-287 September 2011
I found this in a charity shop as an over-sized VHS with lurid illustrated cover. The airbrushed scene depicted is of a televised political rally and ensuing fight with a guy holding swastika banner. There was nothing to give away it's Australian setting or much else with brief description and mysterious cover art. I'm sure the 1980's distributer wanted it that way. The film trundles along a bit and the pace is not the film's strong point. In fact I'd struggle to find too many redeeming features although I enjoyed the political pessimism and cynical outlook of this near-future set thriller. Budget is minimal, but lots of period technology and fashions. A slow burner.
