Not that bad

Warning: Spoilers
Apparently, the first of a series of shorts of a forgotten Terrytoon character, whose creation is apparently attributed to Ralph Bakshi, legendary director of many raunchy, controversial animated films (Such as Fritz the Cat, Heavy Traffic or Coonskin)

That said, anybody expecting to find here any of the usual elements from Bakshi's ouvre will be bitterly disappointed, since this is basically a generic 60s cartoon aimed at kids. This is a very early gig for him as director, predating even the creation of his superhero parody The Mighty Heroes.

That said, I didn't find to be as bad as the other reviewer claimed. It might be very dated, but it does has some vintage charm. A couple of elements from it make me chuckle a bit (Such as the secretary character looking like a scribble made by a little kid and walking as if she was a South Park character)

All things considered, I do think this is better than the ugly and nonsensical Christmas in Tattertown.

This must have been before cartoons were funny. :P

Horrible cartoon, but thank goodness it's a short. The voices are ill-fitted and the animation is poor, though it does kind of resemble the style of Mad magazine back in the 60s. The one redeeming quality is that those familiar with "Hong Kong Phooey" will immediately recognize it as a springboard for that much funnier and much more entertaining series of the 1970s. The characters of Phooey and Rosemary the Telephone Operator are instantly transparent to viewers of the more recent series. James Hound, the hero in this short, is also a bumbling kung-fu artist like Phooey, and he receives messages from his boss via a tall, nasal-voiced woman very much like Rosemary. Saw this one at Library of Congress, so chances of seeing it elsewhere are probably slim.
