This was my first look at a "Tom and Jerry" black-and-white movie from the early 1930s (1932, to be exact.) My first surprise was that it wasn't the cat and mouse Tom And Jerry. It was more like a Mutt and Jeff, just two guys named "Tom" and "Jerry."
Anyway, this whole cartoon basically is a song: "Schultz Is Back," I presume, is the name of the tune since that's about the only lyric I heard. "Schultz" is a big German guy who plays the tuba. He arrives back in town to Tom and Jerry's apartment, starts playing the tuba and is accompanied by his dog, and soon everyone - and everything - sing and dance along.
Actually, it's a catchy number and somewhat fun to watch. I doubt you'll get any laughs out of this but you'll be fairly entertained. Everyone in the cartoon as a good time until the cops show up, grab Schultz, and put him in the paddy wagon. Then they all sing, "Schultz Is Gone...." Well, at least that was funny.
From what I could find out at IBDb, it looks like there were about 27-28 of these "human Tom and Jerry" cartoons made in 1932 and 1933. It's pretty cool that many of them are still
