Give Him the Axe, the Axe, the Axe
boblipton28 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Most Thanksgiving cartoons center on the efforts of some one to chop off a turkey's head for the holiday feast, and this Noveltoon is precisely that sort. Arnold Stang and Sid Raymond use their Herman and Katnip voices as the turkey and the startlingly blond farmer with the axe.

The gags are well done, but they are all clearly stolen from other, better remembered cartoons: the quickly painted landscape that the fleeing turkey runs into, while the farmer splats on the wall; the chase, in which both characters run off the film strip. They're all great gags, but given that the cartoon starts off like 1944's TOM TURKEY AND DAFFY, this looks like the boys at Fleischer decided to throw together a cartoon that could play on Thanksgiving that didn't involve Popeye. The results are OK, but that seen-it-all-before air makes me head elsewhere for Thanksgiving cartoons.
