This film is one of the last real crime movie made in France in the early eighties. Before a very long blackout. Only broken in 1997 with J'IRAI AU PARADIS CAR L'ENFER EST ICI, starring the very same Daniel Duval. We'll have to wait for the early 2000's and the re-birth of this kind of cinema - thanks to OLIVIER MARSCHAL - to assist at the arrivals of such products made in France.
This feature is well related to the old school french crime scheme. We can of course think of Jean Pierre Melville's films. A tale about friendship and revenge among hoods. A story of tragedy and honor. José Giovanni could have written such a film. But he did not. Claude Néron did. He was the author of MAX ET LES FERRAILLEURS.
Christophe Lambert was beginning his career and has here a tiny character. But superb. Far better than he did years later, in non sense crap. I don't speak of GREYSTOKE, of course.
