Women directors were not that much numerous in the French fifties.The name which always comes to mind is Jacqueline Audry ,who brought a feminist touch in that man's man's man's world,a decade before Agnès Varda (when I see a movie such as "le Bonheur" I wonder whether Varda was that much feminist anyway).
Andrée Feix was essentially doing par excellence a woman's job:she was an editor ;she only made two films .This one's only asset is its cast:Edwige Feuillère was an earnest thespian and she gets passable support from Fernand Gravey.
The plot: filmed stage production style,it tells the story of a woman,a sculptor,who does not necessarily need men -that's the only originality-.She has got a pet horse,called Nicolas.Gravey falls in love with her ,but he thinks she has a lover (Nicolas!).All the story revolves around this case of....mistaken identity.Plus a murder mystery but don't expect Agatha Christie! Mildly entertaining,harmless stuff.
