Sterling Holloway, best known as the voice of Winnie the Pooh in later years, made a series of comedy shorts for Columbia in the late 1940s. This is among the best of them all, thanks to a surprisingly competent script by Clyde Bruckman and nice direction by Edward Bernds. Sterling is a rural newspaper reporter who gets his chance to come to the big city to get the goods on a suspected diamond smuggler, with little hope or support from Dick Elliott, who plays the blustery chief editor. Though it's more story-driven, there's still plenty of slapstick comedy to be had.
