Bullied at school, seventeen year old Simon Willerton had big dreams, but his young life was tragically cut short when he took his own life whilst awaiting trial for a minor crime.
Thirty years on, and it's still a hard hitting, very powerful movie, no wonder this film quite rightly won awards, it deserved them.
It's a chillingly sad story, one that actually gave me goosebumps, poor Simon, a product of a failed system, a young Man that needed help and care, his ultimate fate was deplorable.
Paul Popplewell was first rate as Simon, a terrific performance, reading up on the young man, it seems as though he brought to life many of his quips and idiosyncraticies. If this drama was accurate, Simon would have been recognised as being on the spectrum.
David Bradley was very good also, I thought the whole cast were great.
Writer Vincent O'Connell did a cracking job, it feels very realistic, at times it's funny and uplifting, at times it's moving and heart breaking.
A time when The BBC really did know how to make thought provoking, hard hitting dramas.
9/10.
