Based on an Albert Paraz 's novel,a forgotten writer who was good friends with Céline , and who created Bitru ,an average Frenchman ,here played by Pierre Brasseur ; Pierre Laroche and Jacques Prévert as screenwriters,it promised great things .

But these promises remained on hold ; Paraz' s antimilitarism seems very weak and fleetingly in the scene where the businessmen realizes that if one can use water as use oils for the cars ,why not build weapons and bombs in such an ecological way.The rebel stand against society consists of buying a barge called Marie-Antoinette(sic) from a fallen aristocrat , and lead a careless free life ,and aventually taking on a bum (Yves deniaud) ,a barmy inventor ( who created the aqua simplex car) and his daughter, and Bitru's best friend, a former commercial artist who lost his job because used his boss's daughter as a model for his drawings .

See it for Pierre Brasseur as Bitru ,but do not expect much:it does not live up to its high imdb rating.
