Not a bad movie...

Some parts of this film were slightly predictable, but it still was a real nail-biter. What I liked about it was it was unclear through most of the film who the the villain was, and while I certainly agreed with the outcome, I sure didn't see it coming straight away. It was well presented and well acted - well worth 90 minutes of your time. 7/10

Entertaining and original thriller
raymond-1525 March 2002
Onno Staling (Peter Paul Muller) is one of the applicants vying for a top job in the Rijksmuseum. To ensure success for himself, he decides on a plan to abduct another applicant Alex Bickers (Roeland Fernhout)and hold him captive in the cellar of an isolated cottage. The plan works in his favour and he is appointed, but Fate can play such strange tricks, and in the ensuing years the tables are turned and it becomes a story of vengeance.

There are some interesting clues some of which can be guessed at,and even the 6.10 express, as regular as clockwork, plays an important role in the unfolding events.

The actors portray the main characters (thoroughly despicable) with a high degree of competence, and the story itself is quite believable though hopefully applicants will not resort to this kind of behaviour. I thought the pressure pack was a rather strange and unusual birthday present in the early part of the film, but it is a necessary part of the story.

The boiling coffee poised over the innocent smiling baby was a terrifying moment and locking someone in an over-heated sauna could have dire consequences. With a whole series of exciting scenes I felt the entire film was well constructed and an above average thriller. Indeed it held me right to the end and then the unpleasant job of identifying a corpse in the morgue gave way to even one more exciting revelation.

Great movie !

This is a thriller at its best. You don't really expect what somebody can do to have a job. Also a really unusual plot. The film is fast, powerful, very well filmed and the characters are very well played. (one actor played in a good dutch comedy: Rent a Friend) Enjoy

smooth thriller

This made for TV movie was one of the first movies in the Dutch 'telemovie' project and whilst it was made back in 1999, I still think it is one of the best. A job is available at the prestigious Dutch Rijksmuseum. Two man are up for the last rounds of talks to get the job. Totally by chance they meet at a party, Onno, in his thirties and unemployed for quite a while now and ýour typical arrogant y(oung) u(rban) p(rofessional) Alex. Onno develops a terrifying scheme to sidetrack Alex. Right before the job-interviews Onno kidnaps Alex. He subdues him with ( too much ) pepperspray and locks him up in the cellar of an old cottage in the middle of nowhere. Alex is led to believe that he is kidnapped because of his father's job at a ministry. When Onno's gotten the job he releases Alex. A couple of years later the fortunes have changed. Alex has been ridiculed after his ordeal and has not managed to get a job. Onno is very successful by now. They meet again when a desperate Alex applies for the job of Onno's assistant. Onno thinks this is his chance to right past wrongs and hires Alex. After all....there is no way Alex could ever find out what happened right? The story is a bit far fetched but it works. The actors do a good job and are very well cast. The script takes a few surprising turns. On and on a very worthwhile watch.

Made me cringe 'cos of the eyes - but I saw it twice.

Marvelous film. I don't know if there's ever been a distro. in English I saw it in Dutch with French subtitles (but then, I can). Amazingly tense, lots of questions about human behaviour, a marvelously sexy sex scene (I thought so anyway) and some really atrocious cruelty. Lots of dark backgrounds to follow the darkness of the story and I'm certainly not going anywhere near spoiling the ending for anyone reading this. If you can find it and fancy an excellent revenge thriller with a little sex, and some violence that goes beyond the normal - not in slap bang wallop style - give it a try. If you want more details other people have posted more on IMDb. All I would say is find it if you can if it appeals - well acted, OK one of the standard plots, if you know Amsterdam you'll enjoy sightseeing.
