Handsomely staged biopic of Andre Chenier with good attention to detail as far as the sets and costumes are concerned, but the direction is awfully static. As with most biopics from this era, the film is more a series of highlights (and a pointless dream sequence) than a concerted attempt to get under the skin of its subject.
