Brilliant adaptation to the screen of Palmerio' s novel
cleopoldo23 March 2007
This high quality, superbly interpreted TV series far outreaches the written work by Mario Palmerio. The story of a landowner's rural society and its power imbroglios in the Brazilian hinterland in the beginning of the 1900s is an accurate depiction of what really used to take place in continental America politics . It is Walter Avancini's masterpiece, but unfortunately is not very well known to the public since it was last exhibited 19 years ago. The score is marvelous and the performances of Kiko Junqueira, Paulo Goulart and Edson Celulari are of superior extraction. It's a shame it has not been released on a DVD version. This high quality, superbly interpreted TV series far outreaches the written work by Mario Palmerio. A brazilian epic!
gmichael-32 April 2000
"Chapadão do Bugre" is a TV-epic based on the novel of the same title written by one of the most important brazilian writer of this century, Mr. Mário Palmério. The adaptation for TV of the cruel story of "Izé de Arimáteia" (wonderfully played by Celulari) in the 20's years when started the exploration of the inner lands of Brazil is remarkable and credible. There's a lot of violence here, but it's okay because it's tightly attached to the truth of these times. If you want to see a competent brazilian's TV production, don't miss this one.
