Often over looked gem

If people were asked to name their favourite Eurythmics Album " We Too Are One" would probably not be at the forefront of their minds. The album reached no.1 in the UK and no.32 in the U.S due more to past reputation than on the strength of the singles, which all failed to reach the top 20. Although best remembered for being their last collaboration for ten years this outing does contain some treats which would not be out of place on previous albums. The dark and disturbing Sylvia feels as if it dropped off the end of "Savage" and (my my) Baby's gonna cry ( notable for being the only time the duo ever shared vocals ) would have nestled in nicely among tracks on the "Revenge" LP. The strength of this video though is its non-reliance on the album. Although all the video singles are here, ( mostly directed by the talented Sophie Muller - Don't Ask Me Why - being the stand out track ) more fascinating is the behind the scenes segue ways of the duo as they perform on tour. It has an intimate documentary feel that goes further to explore the couple and their music than before or since. Standouts include Annie trying to play guitar while Dave sings, an acoustic version of the fan favourite "I need you", the singing of a traditional Scottish ballad (Farewell to Tawathie ), a rendition of Rudolph the red nose reindeer and an awkward meeting with a fanatical fan who had collected every single piece of memorabilia in an attempt to make contact with her heroes. While the album on its own will never be hailed as a classic this video accompaniment is greater than the sum of its parts and is well worth a look.
