This is a Hindi language film which is more significant for launching the careers of actors Dev Anand, Pran, Kalpana Karthik and not to forget Kishore Kumar as singer.
The storyline otherwise is fairly formula based. To be fair, the formula may have been set by this film itself, released as it was almost 75 years ago!
But viewers from this generation are less likely to find anything new. The story and political correctness are way hard to bear. Including when Dev Anand's wife suddenly agrees to elope with Pran for no good reason, only to refuse it a few minutes later and lead them to doom! Just to show that a married woman can't do that! While yes, the married Dev Anand can well mistreat his wedded wife only in the end to successfully be able to emotionally blackmail his family into agreeing to get him married to his lover.
Such plot-holes notwithstanding, the performances by everyone are remarkable.
