Rockman X4
mrphantasm24 November 2005
The Rockman franchise is one of the best franchises of platform-games, with numerous sequels, the blue boy has enjoyed a unique success and especially he has gained his own fandom. It is hard to believe that some kids play this game, that may happen but Rockman X4 is a gift for the loyal fans. At the time Rockman X4 was released Capcom was trying to adapt the Rockman world to 3D environments, but still they developed this sequel in a classic Rockman style with some visual improvements.

The game itself is moderately difficult, increases its difficulty after the first initial levels. These first levels offer the usual side-scrolling 2D world. Some ability with the buttons and patience will be necessary, because there will be some failures on the way while the right way of face all the Robots-bosses is found. Unless you are cheater and find a walk-trough via-Internet. X and Zero have some interesting new powers, and as usual they will gain another weapons while they beat the different mavericks.

Capcom made a big effort with X4, it has a nice storyline with amazing anime interludes, the storyline differs if the player chooses X or his buddy Zero, die-hard fans will try to beat the game with both characters. In a few words: A good and addictive game.

Simply the best of X.
Snake-1211 June 2000
This game is a total masterpiece. I think it's the COMPLETE best of the X series. Zero has the best story line, which involves a BEAUTIFUL female reploid called "Iris" The Colonel talks funny with his british accent. And I highly recommend this to anyone that likes the X series, or any fan of any Capcom games.

I really love this game...

Warning: Spoilers
As if I'm the only one who thinks so, I'm going to go ahead and say that this is my favorite Megaman X game, or any Megaman game. Back when I actually owned a PS1, I played it all the time. As has been stated, the game revolves mostly around Zero's plot line. Therefore, I shall run down said story.

MASSIVE SPOILERS ENSUE.

The game begins with Zero getting a call to the Sky Lagoon, where Magma Dragoon, a former Maverick Hunter turned traitor, has sent it crashing toward the ground, killing thousands of innocent people, to Zero's horror.

After he destroys Dragoon's lead maverick, he's confronted by his old friend Colonel, the second-in-command of the Repliforce, a Reploid army that is held in suspicion for the attack. Colonel denies the charges and declares war on the Maverick Hunters for their supposedly false charges.

The war begins, and Zero and X fight a number of battles against the Repliforce commanders, including the traitor Dragoon. Meanwhile, Zero has to juggle fighting in the war and his love affair with a girl named Iris, made more complicated by the fact that she's Colonel's sister, and desperately tries to stop her lover and her brother from fighting.

Needless to say, she fails, and the ensuing drama causes many bad feelings for Zero and, in many cases, the player.

The entire drama of Zero getting his personal affairs mixed up with his business is beautifully executed, if more than a bit sad. What I thought was interesting was that one of the 8 any-order-you-choose bosses was a supporting character, in actuality responsible for the entire plot.

It was wonderfully executed, to say the least, and I'd play it again if I ever got the chance.

Pretty good.

This installment of the "Mega Man X" series is pretty good. I myself prefer to play as Zero because as many have said, the best story lines are when you play as him. Besides, I love using that sword of his. Bottom line: This installment is great.

The climax for Mega man
atlihafsteinsson25 May 2006
I've always been into Mega man. But with the Mega man X series, with which the series grew much more mature, a whole new level of Mega man experience was opened up to me. Now, I've also always been a great fan of the boss characters of Mega man - that's what's mostly attracted me to the games. "Mega man X4" - the fourth in the "X" series and released for the Playstation, Sega Saturn and PC - not only is very strong in that aspect, but tops as the most powerful Mega man game to date.

Keeping to Mega man's traditional eight-bosses-in-any-order style of play, the storyline is the strongest ever, and can even be read into events in our world... But in order to appreciate it, one must understand the circumstances. At the time of this story, so-called Reploids (robots who can think, feel and make their own decision) are spread throughout the world. Some go 'maverick'; i.e., they turn on humans and other Reploids. It is the duty of the Maverick hunters, a peace-keeping police force, to stop the Mavericks. In "Mega man X4", the Maverick hunters are turned against an army called the Repliforce, against the good will of both parties, when the Repliforce are accused of being Mavericks. This makes the confrontations of "X", Zero and the Mavericks all the more emotionally stunning.

During the game, through which you can play as either X or Zero, you will meet a host of Mavericks of all shapes, sizes and personalities. From Magma Dragoon to Frost Walrus, all battles are not only challenging, but very impacting as well, because the bosses have a very strong personality. Their near-flawless voice casting underlines this heavily; too bad most of their names remain unknown.

The Repliforce storyline is the deepest yet to be seen in a Mega man game, X or not, in my opinion. Particularly when you choose to play as Zero is the progress of the storyline definitely more moving. And the (to me) astonishing music does not spoil matters at all. To sum it up; I think "Mega man X4" is the most impacting Mega man game of them all. This is the top of the mountain. If you can just look past the rather blocky graphics, I can totally advise you to fasten your seat belts and get ready for as much excitement as a Die Hard marathon.

Excellent, the best of the Megaman X on 2D
truenks439 August 2008
Megaman X,X 2 & X 3,are greatest games,i don't think that any game will beat X 3,but was wrong, because,Megaman X4 it's just the best of the Megaman X series, the option to fight as X or Zero, give you the best reason to beat the hard game more than only one time, the history is different depending wish character you select. The graphics find he's update. The music...¿how can i say? It's Megaman X,that means:the best about music. The story have too many moments that you can't lose. No matter how much times i finish this game,i don't lose that special sense, sense ho only this game have. You sure play a Megaman game, and you will be in deal with, that this is the best of the series. Just in the case that you don't play this game yet,you can play it on Megaman X Collection available on GameCube,XBOX,and Play Station 2.

Don't lose the game,it's really a master piece from Capcom.

Must Buy
Crwler2217 December 2008
One of my favorite Megaman games, and with good reason, too. This game has everything that fans can ask for: great graphics, nice music, beautiful stages, voice-acting, anime cinematic, cool bosses, and last but not least, the ability to play as Zero.

I feel that it's a tad bit unfair that X takes a backseat to Zero, but hey, that's the way that it goes. Zero has always been a mystery, and he still is. He even has his own series, and even then, we fans are left with more questions. I feel that Zero will always remain what he has been in the past: a mystery.

I prefer Zero's story because it tells the player more about him and the tragedy that is his life. I felt bad for him, actually, and I still do. Can he ever get a break? Apparently not.

Bottom line: This game is a must buy.

Why hate it? It's not bad at all.

Warning: Spoilers
I think it's a very good game with a great plot and characters. And X's voice is fine. He sounds like a pansy because he is a pansy. Along with the other voices. They're really good too. And why do people prefer Zero a lot? Go ahead and jump all over X because he doesn't like to fight. The world would be a better place if more people like X were in it. *SPOILER* And the war is Zero's fault, not X's. He was the source of the virus in the first place. Okay? You people don't have to agree. I am just saying my thoughts. And that's all I need to say. By the way, I'm a 13yr.old girl. 14 next March. This message will self-discruct in 5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1.. BOOM!

The last great X game till stagnation hits...
strife8223 November 2005
If there was any platform game I've been following for pretty much it's entire existence, it's been the Mega Man series. Sure, it's pretty much the same deal over and over again, but something about it makes it that much more addicting. Capcom stepped the intensity up a couple more notches with the Mega Man X series for the Super NES, showing a much more mature side of Mega Man we hadn't seen before. Each sequel made the story line a bit thicker, incorporating more characters into the mix of the war between Mega Man X and the Mavericks, lead by the ever-venomous Sigma. With the departure of the Super NES, Capcom took the X series to the next stage with Mega Man X4 on the Sega Saturn and, a short while later, the Sony PS1, and this was easily the best X game of the series up to this point. Everything centers around a new rivalry between the Maverick Hunters and a group known as Repliforce, a plan for both which goes horribly awry. So it's up to either X or Zero to save the day. This is the first game to mark the ability to play as Zero, now wielding a new powerful saber (you can choose to play as him from the get-go for the entire game and bypass all the ridiculous choosing screen between the choosing screens in X5-8). Both X and Zero have their own personal storyline, though this series tends to lean a bit more towards Zero's (which is starting to grow on me; I'm sure, sadly, more people would be interested in Zero's side of things, having seen X's for three games). They both possess differing attacks and strategies (X's X-Buster and armors versus Zero's Z-Saber and various slash attacks), intertwining characters relevant to their stories, and a good deal of action in between. I even think X's effeminate voice fits much better than in Mega Man 8! (it's much better than his Japanese-boy-in-puberty moaning in X6 and whiny punk voice in X7). Plus, the use of anime-style cut-scenes gave the game a sleeker, more personal look; anyone can slap together a cut-scene in the game, but the animation gave it a stronger sense of drama. This was the best game to date until, three years later, Capcom continued to release more sequels to the series, much to my surprise and delight, to varying degrees of success; either a hollow shell of it's former glory (Mega Man X5), a rush job to appeal to the marketing of it's predecessor (Mega Man X6), or a debacle into 3D that sorta went wrong (Mega Man X7); though I say these things, I do enjoy those three titles very much. It's just that they were lacking quite a bit and had much to live up for after X4. Thankfully, Capcom once again got the recipe right and released Mega Man X8, which was easily the best since this game in question. If you haven't picked up or played this game, you are truly missing out and should be urged to check it out!
