X-Men 97 Nominated at the Gotham TV Awards, Predicted to Win Emmys - Main Image
The dust has barely settled since the season finale of X-Men ‘97 dropped, yet the accolades have already started to pour in.
The highly-acclaimed animated series is nominated in the Breakthrough Drama Series category at the 2024 Gotham TV Awards, with credit to Beau DeMayo as creator and Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Kevin Feige, Brad Winderbaum, and DeMayo as executive producers.
It is up against some serious competition in the category, versus Black Cake, Fallout, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and The Curse; however, it is worth noting that X-Men ‘97 is the only animated show to get a nomination in this year’s awards.
Nominees for the annual Gotham Awards are selected by a panel of film and television critics, journalists, and festival programmers, with the award ceremony to be held on June 4, 2024.

Over the years, we have seen many powerful X-Men characters in various series and movies. However, there are still many X-Men characters that have still not been introduced to either animated franchises or live actions.

While Superhero-fatigue was not at its peak, several movies from both superhero brands— Marvel and DC Studios, enjoyed the heydays at the box office. Amid that, stand-alone female-led movies have also seen astonishing success.
Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman
Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot, in particular, was the perfect example of the rise of female-led superhero flicks as the 2017 movie went on to be a critical darling with a stunning box-office performance. Fox’s X-Men movie series based on the Marvel characters also enjoyed a mild buzz for a female-led movie with Dafne Keen but it did not see the light of day as of yet.

Dealing with violent characters and their graphic storylines can definitely be a tricky affair when you’re making a show for kids. Unfortunately, that is exactly what has been happening with Marvel’s fan-favorite X-Men member, Wolverine for years.

During the early 2000s X-Men: Evolution reimagined the popular Marvel Comics team for a younger audience. The animated series ran for 52 episodes across four seasons and was the first introduction to Mutants for an entirely new generation of superhero fans. However, the series failed to bring to life one of the X-Men’s deadliest foes.

Representation of diversity has become a massive subject in the entertainment industry in the last few decades. However, the situation was quite different in the early 2000s when the audience used to not bat an eye over these things.

It has been often seen in several movies and series that people of color (usually people of African heritage) spot a braided hairstyle. Alongside the braided hairstyle, an almost bald look or a one-side cut is also often seen with these characters.
People might call it stereotypical and even borderline racism, but this was the norm during the early 2000s. Well, with the animated series X-Men: Evolution, one character was almost about to suffer the same fate until the executive producers decided to step in and change it to something unique.

While Bruce Timm gave us the definitive version of the caped crusader with Batman: The Animated Series, with X-Men: The Animated Series, Larry Houston gave fans the definitive X-Men experience.

For the first time in over 10 years, a new animated “X-Men” show has arrived.
The first trailer for Disney+’s “X-Men ’97” is here, and it continues the story from the classic ’90s cartoon, “X-Men: The Animated Series.” It begins streaming on Disney+ on March 20.
The beloved “X-Men: The Animated Series” ran from 1992-1997 for five seasons. “X-Men ’97” functions as essentially a sixth season for the show, picking up after the 1997 series finale, “Graduation Day,” in which Prof. Charles Xavier dies. The new trailer shows X-Men members Cyclops, Wolverine, Morph, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jubilee, Bishop and more pick up the pieces after Prof. X perishes.
“We have to say vigilant, the professor entrusted us with his dream,” Cyclops says to his team, as footage shows anti-mutant protests in the streets and a casket containing Prof. X lowered into the ground. The team battles giant Sentinel robots, and the final...

For as long as I've known the X-Men, Rogue has been one of my favorite members of the team. It was her white-streaked hair and charming Southern Belle accent that first caught my notice, but what makes Rogue endure is her tortured soul.
Her untamed powers, to lethally absorb the vitality, memories, and superabilities of other people, prevent her from touching anyone; her first kiss put her boyfriend in a coma. So, she keeps herself closed off, too afraid of hurting others to get close to them — even her true love Gambit/Remy LeBeau. With this intersection of superpowers and characterization, Rogue shows how not all mutant powers are blessings. Due to underserved sex education in the United States, plenty of teens (especially queer ones) can relate to Rogue's fear that intimacy will cause calamity.

Voice actor David Kaye still remembers getting the news he'd been cast on "Transformers: Animated." Two weeks after a callback where he read for multiple characters, he got a call from his agent. Kaye, who was driving in downtown LA, answered his phone and heard the news: he'd got the part ... of Optimus Prime. Kaye's response as he swerved his car: "Who?!"
While Kaye had read for Optimus Prime (and noticed voice director Susan Blu liked what he was doing), he walked into the audition expecting to get a different part. The part, in fact, that was furthest from Optimus Prime — Megatron. At the time, Kaye had been voicing Megatron for about a decade, first in "Beast Wars."

The finale of "X-Men: Evolution" — titled "Ascension" — is mostly a triumphant one. The eponymous team successfully defeats En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse, sending the villain spiraling through the limbo of time. In the process, they stop his plan to turn all of mankind into mutants (and kill those who can't "ascend" in the process) and rescue Apocalypse's brainwashed Horsemen. Left without their mentor in their darkest hour, the teenage X-Men prove themselves more than mere students: true heroes.
The creators had plans for more before "Evolution" was canceled, and the closing moments reflect that. Professor X reveals that he glimpsed their shared futures in the mind of Apocalypse and that while the X-Men will endure, not all days ahead are happy ones. Thus, the series ends on a mood halfway between uplifting and melancholy.

Cue that iconic theme music because X-Men: The Animated Series is coming back in a big way! Many a Saturday morning was defined by sitting in front of the television and watching Charles Xavier’s gifted youngsters save the day in their colourful spandex, but it’s been nearly 26 years since X-Men: The Animated Series bowed out with the acclaimed “Graduation Day,” and while the likes of X-Men: Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men have their merits, they’ve paled in comparison to The Animated Series.

This review contains no spoilers and is based on the first three episodes of Pacific Rim: The Black season 1.
Guillermo del Toro’s neon-drenched monsters-vs-robots epic Pacific Rim wore its influences proudly on its elbow cannon-equipped sleeves, so an anime-style spin-off makes a certain kind of inevitable sense. Pacific Rim: The Black is a seven-episode Netflix Original that seeks to expand the Pacific Rim mythology – think “extended universe” rather than “sequel”.
Created by Thor: Ragnarok co-writer Craig Kyle and X-Men: Evolution head writer Greg Johnson, the show follows siblings Hayley (Gideon Adlon) and Taylor Travis (Calum Worthy) as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic, kaiju-infested Australia.
A quick introductory voiceover establishes the setup: after multiple new Breaches appeared on the continent, the Pan Pacific Defence Corps cut its losses and moved out of Australia entirely. A half-hearted evacuation pulled out some survivors; the rest were abandoned. Hayley and Taylor’s parents were Jaeger pilots,...

It’s hard to believe that prior to the mid-’80s when Frank Miller, got his evil genius hands on the Dark Knight with the landmark graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns, the figure of Batman was defined by the kitschy ’60s TV show starring Adam West and the bright and sunny pages of Bob Kane’s original Detective Comics. Released in 1986, The Dark Knight Returns cast Batman as a moody, bitter, aging caped crusader: a musclebound vigilante who spends his nights crashing a tank through the grimy streets of a Gotham that closely resembled the rain-soaked, gothic aesthetic of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner (1982).
From this point on in comics, television, cinema, and the general public consciousness, Batman was forever reinvented as a brooding, tragic, gothic figure who often occupied the thin line between hero and anti-hero. When Tim Burton was handed the reins for Batman’s first real foray into cinema,...

Netflix dropped the trailer for anime series “Pacific Rim: The Black” Friday, revealing an animated world that has been overrun by Kaiju.
Based on filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s blockbuster “Pacific Rim” movie franchise, “Pacific Rim: The Black” continues the epic battles between monsters and robots, this time through the eyes of two teens in Australia.
Per Netflix, “There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.”

“Once the pandemic hit, we prepared for the worst,” says David McIntosh, Director of Marketing at Tastemakers, the parent company of Arcade1Up. “We tightened up our staff, we let go of some of our external partners…as most people did. We did go into survival mode and started getting back to our roots of being a startup.”
Steeped in nostalgia, Arcade1Up has been developing and manufacturing 3/4 scale arcade cabinets of some of the most iconic arcade titles in history, releasing them through major retailers like Best Buy and Walmart since 2018. From Space Invaders and Street Fighter to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Golden Tee, Arcade1Up’s line of cabinets spans the history of arcade culture.

Some pretty iconic comic book characters originated far away from the comic book page. Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen and his editor Perry White both first appeared in the Adventures of Superman radio show. Wolverine’s clone/adopted daughter X-23 debuted as part of the X-Men: Evolution cartoon series. Phil Coulson became such a ubiquitous part of the early Marvel films (and then the lead on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) that he’s now similarly ingrained in the Marvel comic book universe.

John Cho was seriously injured while shooting Netflix’s live-action series adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. According to Deadline, the injury was described as a “freak accident on the last take of a routine and well-rehearsed scene.”
His accident is serious enough to require surgery and he will also have to go through extensive rehabilitation. Because of this, production on the series is expected to shut down for the next 7 to 9 months. The new filming schedule will be set once Cho’s prognosis is clear.
The series is still early in production and Netflix could replace Cho if they wanted to, but they are not going to do that. They’re fully committed to Cho and will not make this series without him. A rep from Netflix offered the following statement:
“Our thoughts are with John and he has our complete support as he recuperates from this injury.”

If anything, the 1990s played host to a veritable revolution when it came to superhero animation. Though this was something that’d been around since the 1940s, productions had previously been handcuffed by network Standards and Practices like you wouldn’t believe. But then the game-changer that was Batman: The Animated Series arrived and the rest was history.
Soon afterward, Marvel properties began receiving similar treatment. If any of them were to be named as being most fondly remembered, that’d have to be X-Men: The Animated Series. After all, the character designs mirrored that of the source material’s very accurately, as did its adaptations of key comic book storylines.

Elena Satine (Strange Angel, Revenge, The Gifted) is the latest actor to join Netflix’s live action Cowboy Bebop series. She will star alongside Jon Cho, who plays Spike Spiegel, and take on the role of Julia. Here’s a description that was shared for the character:
With a sultry beauty and a voice to die for, Julia is the dream-like object of Spike Spiegel’s (Cho) desire. She struggles to survive in a violent world.
Satine also joins the previously cast Mustafa Shakir (Luke Cage), Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), and Alex Hassell (Suburbicon) , who will all play key roles in the upcoming series. I think Satine seems like a solid choice for the role, but what do you all think?

Ever since Disney officially purchased Fox earlier this year and gained access to its huge library of IPs, fans have been wondering when the wayward Marvel franchises would be absorbed or rebooted in the McU. And while Fantastic Four was noted at Comic-Con in July as being on the docket, leading audiences to believe it‘s a part of Phase 5, the same can’t be said for the X-Men, arguably the crown jewel of Fox’s Marvel properties.
It’s easy to understand the lack of info regarding the mutant misfits, as Disney had to release Dark Phoenix, which utterly bombed this past June, and New Mutants is still a year out. Given that there’s content still to come, then, it makes sense that the studio hasn’t made any announcements.
In fact, Marvel Cinematic Universe architect Kevin Feige has repeatedly told to the world not to expect the...

If I were to ask you the name of Wolverine’s daughter, odds are you’d quickly respond with either “X-23” or her everyday name of “Laura Kinney.” After having been originally introduced on the X-Men: Evolution animated series, this character proved popular enough to be integrated into comics canon. And later on down the line, she even featured in the major motion picture, Logan.
Well, if recent events wind up going in the direction it appears they’ll head, then another gal’s name will become an acceptable response (though you may already split hairs over Amiko Kobayashi). Before I lay it out, know that it remains to be seen if the focus of today’s conversation is a clone like X-23, or actually happens to be the biological daughter of Wolverine.
You see, in Marvel Comics Presents #6, the X-Men lineup from the 1990s found themselves facing a demon known as the Truth,...

Today we have a piece of cool fan art to share with you from artist Nikki Dawes. It shows us what Cho could look like in the role, and I think some fans will dig it.
