a fair first movie
jean-no24 December 2001
The author of this movie watched Quentin Tarantino and the early Spike Lee movies. He also watched (and did ?) Hip Hop musical videos. He maybe also enjoyed the now classic belgian "c'est arrivé près de chez vous". The result is not amazing, but fair. French people will enjoy the special guest list : Djamel Debouze, joey Starr, Smaïn, Elie Seimoun and much more. The story is simple : "Old school" is the name of a gangster team whose members live in the nostalgy of the seventies-early eighties. One thinks and acts as Tony Montana (in B.de Palma's Scarface), another only breathes for soul music, etc. The gang is followed by a camera - the journalist promised their faces will be hidden... Nothing to compare with great gangster humour movies like "Pulp Fiction", "les tontons flingueurs" or "sonatine", but it is the first real "hip hop" fiction made in france.
