Good atmospheric thriller from France
gerdd16 May 2005
Just a little one night stand - and you end up as the prime suspect for murder. No one is interested in your side of the story, not even your lawyer husband, so you run before you get arrested. That's how it happens to Florence, and this is not the first movie plot that starts this way. But the atmosphere created by the authors is almost as tight as in a Sebastien Japrisot novel, and that is quite unique in the movie world. What's more, they manage to weave the web and unravel the plot in a mere 90 minutes. (A genuine Japrisot takes considerably longer.)

With some commendable photography, some rather scenic locations and a good cast added to the mix you won't find yourself regretting the time spent chomping away at your popcorn with a vengeance. I'll certainly watch it again - for details - when it comes around the next time. A good example of a competent French thriller, methinks.

Predictable yet entertaining
SkyCAM9 July 2006
This movie can characterized as a typical french crime thriller. The acting is good for a TV production but the story is very predictable since there are only a few main characters. It becomes quite clear into the movie that the solution to the plot has to involve these few. The drama surrounding the main protagonist, a woman who is married to a lawyer and made the mistake to sleep with a stranger who dies at the beginning of the movie, is believable. Overall the movie is nothing really special but sure a entertaining thriller with fresh and pretty unknown faces. The look and feel of Nizza, where the movie takes place, is present but there are not many recognizable spots where the action is taking place apart from some scene shots.

If the hand-held camera doesn't make you nauseous, you'll like this

Warning: Spoilers
Marion Cotillard stars in "Une Femme Piegee" - American titled "Woman in Danger" - which I saw on Amazon prime as an actual movie. I was surprised to learn it's an episode of a TV series.

The petite, beautiful Cotillard is Florence, a woman with marital problems who has a one night stand with one Victor Cartier. He persists in seeing her again, so she goes to his hotel bungalow. When time passes and he hasn't appeared, she walks into the bathroom and sees blood everywhere and a man bent over, head under water in the tub. She races out. Unfortunately one of her earrings is found at the scene, plus the gardener saw her race out in her car -- she's arrested. Her attorney husband gets her out on a technicality. He's angry, to say the least.

When the murder makes the news, Florence realizes the man she was with and who was allegedly killed is not Victor Cartier. She wants to find the man whom she believes set her up to take a murder rap.

This was easy to figure out, but it holds one's interest as Florence runs from the law and her husband, desperately trying to locate the man she was with. I mentioned above that Cotillard is petite - this show gave her quite a workout, running like mad, climbing hills, all in the hot sun.

I often read reviews of films I've seen that complain about the hand-held cameras. Never bothered me before now. Really, really drove me crazy and nearly made me sick. Not only that, but sometimes the camera was so close, you didn't know what you were looking at. In fact, when Florence has her one night stand, I thought it was two women at first.

Other than that it's well done and Cotillard is wonderful.

Well-Scripted & Fast-Paced Thriller

Warning: Spoilers
The word "piégée" in the film's title film's title gets at the heart of the story of a woman who feels trapped. Marion Cotillard is excellent as the feisty wife of a sleazy attorney, who refuses to play the role of victim.

Cotillard's character Florence is set up for the murder of one of her husband's clients. She receives mixed legal counsel from her husband and is denied her rights by the police.

Florence is constantly on the run, as she tracks down clues about the circumstances of the murder of a man she never met. While she feels guilt about her brief fling, the man she slept was clearly entrapping her in a more sinister conspiracy.

Many of the characters are shady, including the homicide detective who will stop at nothing to apprehend Florence. The film belongs to Cotillard, who skillfully eludes the authorities and solves the mystery.

While this was a French television program, the finished product has the look of a featured film.
