Warning: Spoilers
This is one of many films in a sub-par collection of animated shorts entitled "Avoid Eye Contact: Volume One".

While I didn't love this short (that would be VERY hard), I did like and appreciate it. It's obvious that Jesse Schmall made this not for theatrical release but as an experiment--a very strange and surreal one at that! I'll try to explain the plot, but I really don't think this is the point of the film, as the plot is just too weird and is more of a meandering stream of consciousness, not a narrative in any normal or sane sense!

The film begins with a Russian officer and his crew inside a submarine. They are singing the traditional music you'd expect. However, the location soon switches to a lady and her dog, guys on scooters, etc.--and you are immediately feeling confused--especially since there are Russians in a sub and the other images look more like they are 1970s Italy. Then there's something about a football (soccer) team and all of it confused me until you see that the sub is actually only about 6 inches long and is bouncing around in this odd world. See, I told you it would make no sense!

As for the animation, it was very simple and not especially great, though the story was just weird enough that it caught my attention. Many of the shorts on this DVD never caught my attention--this one does and as a result I mildly enjoyed it.
