The Diva at her Best
Harold1447218 January 2005
This recital of Kathleen Battle, taped in the Temple of Dendur at the Met Museum in New York, is simply spectacular, revealing the soprano at her finest. Her gorgeous, opulent, creamy sound glows throughout the program, which includes her signature arias and songs. From Gershwin's "Summertime" to "Piangero la sorte mia" of Handel's Giulio Cesare, Mozart's "Un moto di gioia" and "Ridente la calma", Purcell's "Sweeter than Roses", and her signature, uplifting encore "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands", the video is filled with her very best, these being only a few of the many works. She sings not only technically perfectly, but with the most compelling and sensuous artistry. As a reviewer for the New York Times so eloquently put, "She forms each note as though desiring to add to the sum of beauty in the world."
