good concert DVD,just be prepared to find that few of your favorites didn't make the cut.

The scale of the concert and fireworks is a sight to behold. The video quality is good but not great, the sound is excellent though and is presented in two flavors:Dolby Digital and 2 Channel stereo.

I am disappointed that many of my favorite tracks didn't make it into this DVD. And I've noticed this on many Jarre video releases; they cut many tracks from the actual show. Nobody expects a live recording to be perfect so why not leave it in there? In terms of extras the DVD contains a documentary titled "making the steam roller fly" which gives a nice background on the early career of Jarre and the Moscow and earlier concerts. There is some very short clips from the 1981 concerts in china, that I've never seen before and it would've been awesome if the they included some tracks from that concert ,or at least more clips ,i would like to see a DVD release of that ground breaking concert as it has some great tracks.

Overall this is a good concert DVD, and I would recommend it to Jarre fans and those interested in electronic music, just be prepared to find that few of your favorites didn't make the cut.

A very good concert film

I already loved Jean-Michel Jarre's music, but this concert made me love it even more. It kind of feels like a greatest hits compilation, though given the title, I was expecting it to feature him playing both Oxygene albums released at that time in full. I really wasn't disappointed when it turned out to not be that - the selection of tracks was pretty excellent overall.

Visually, it's also pretty neat, feeling like a suitably epic concert to complement the exciting, intricate, sweeping electronic music Jarre is known for. I admittedly was listening to it more than I was watching it, but whenever I looked over, it looked pretty great.

We rightly complain about nepotism a lot, but I feel like Jean-Michel Jarre successfully broke away from his father, legendary composer Maurice Jarre. Maurice might have a slightly more impactful legacy, but I know I listen to his son's music a whole lot more often (it makes for great study/work music - really helps with focus and stuff).

The most extraordinary concert film ever!
binkym20 February 2002
This extraordinary concert took place at Moscow state University in Lenin Hills, Moscow, to celebrate Moscow's 850th birthday. A grand explosion of music, lasers, fireworks, singing, dancing and orchestration, it'll make you envy Muscovites (more than a million of whom turned out for the show) for having received such a magnificent spectacular birthday. Featuring the Ex-Red Army Choir, Bolshoi Dancers, and the Bolshoi Kids Choir, as well as the Russian Knights aerobatic team doing stunts in Sukhoi 27s, and even astronauts from the Mir Space Station, it is almost too amazing for words. I dare you to watch it and not choke up.

Because the music is most excellently recorded, you can even play it while doing other things as if it were a regular CD, but the images (especially the ones projected onto gigantic buildings) are so striking, you'll be constantly finding yourself stopping to look at the TV. (Playing it on your computer outfitted with a DVD player will solve your having to make a lot of trips to the TV.)

Jarre just keeps getting more amazing with age, and with technology. Watching him play a "harp" made of laser lights is so exciting, your heart might burst out of your chest.

We can only hope that one day soon he'll do a concert for us Americans, perhaps to commemorate 9/11/01.
