There are stories within all of us; stories that each and every one of us could tell, the snippets of conversation, the throwaway remarks that reveal so much about ourselves and our society. This fascinating little short is made up of long conversations with five separate twentysomething women, cut down to a digestible running time with judicious use of jump cuts. The result is almost voyeuristic, but it also has the effect of really conveying the personalities of the interviewees, as well as revealing something of the hidden complexities that are both common to us all and unique to every one of us.
I found the breathless style a little uncomfortable at times, but the effect was undeniably effective - sometimes amusing and sometimes very powerful. Witness the (unintentionally) hilarious rich kid juxtaposed with the girl who spent her summer working with holocaust survivors. The message is clear, without being heavy handed. I can't deny that I was moved.
I'm not sure where you might get to see this intriguing little gem, but I would certainly suggest you do if the opportunity came up. ****out of*****.
