Advocate of legal reform and criticism of the Cultural Revolution
zzmale5 April 2004
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: The 508 Case.

This crime movie, like most Chinese crime movies, is based on the true story that really happened. The movie is actually a combination of the criticism of the Cultural Revolution and the an advocate of legal reform in that by depicting a dramatized actual case, it pointed out the desperate need of legal reforms in the new era of reform in China, and furthermore, it criticized the devastation in the Chinese legal system caused by the Cultural Revolution. For example, the lack of cooperation between different judicial and law enforcement establishment and the bureaucracy that is common in China (and still common in China today).
