Life takes all kinds
paulgeaf4 February 2008
This film is about people. It is about life. I know that isn't as profound a statement as I am making out but, if you just watch this movie with an open mind and, possibly, an open heart, you will feel enlightened and a warm glow afterwards. This simple little film brings you the whole spectrum of emotions and almost has you crying more than once, although it is hard not to laugh at the characters and their ways...the Vietnam vet guy is particularly funny. yet even he has another side that you can't ignore: Who was he, why did he become the man he has become and even wonder what he might have gone through in wartime that possibly made him lose his marbles..? anyway I recommend this film to everyone even if you just want to see some 'crazy folk' and laugh. But it really does go a lot deeper than that so look closer.

This movie is so funny! Lots of the people in the movie i see walking around town especially Jerry. he's nice & he always says hi to me. it's a great movie & all my friends agree too.

There are so many funny parts. In one part, a man is asked, " what did you have for dinner last night?" he says , Cocaine! i laughed so hard. it was probably true too. You learn about the many unique faces of southbridge. I was so excited to see this movie since i'm from Southbridge.

i love this town the documentary gets people to hear about southbridge, but there's other great things about our town too.

Raw, Gritty and the real deal

This thing is funny as heck. You really feel for the people of Southbridge because they could easily be you or me. I laughed so hard I drop my popcorn in the floor. There are plenty of tearful moments as well such as when Abe goes missing.

YOU NEED TO SEE WITH AS MANY FRIENDS AS YOU CAN!!!

Dishonest and exploitive view of of a small town

I grew up in Southbridge but haven't lived there for many years. The film maker use several people with mental illness, mental retardation and/or substance abuse issues and portrays them as the typical residents of this aging mill town that has lost, as many mill towns have, its industrial base. Much of the residential infrastructure was geared to mill workers...tenements and generally modest single family housing. Its location is just far enough from the bigger cities of Springfield and Worcester to have kept it from becoming a bedroom community for many years, limiting its growth potential. The film maker seems to revel in the misfortune of the people he profiles, capturing racist, paranoid and delusional rants. One person is seemingly given a old bottle of soda to drink while he is sorting returnables. Those that find this funny would Pribilof have laughed at the geek shows of days gone (thankfully) by or have entertained themselves by driving by the asylums on Sunday afternoons.

Too bad I can't rate this a 0 star.
