. . . at a yard sale, I'd never heard of "Toon Heads." Apparently it's a TV show on some cable channel not available in my city. As far as I can tell from watching this episode--THE LOST CARTOONS--it's a program in which members of the Warner Bros. janitorial staff pat themselves on the back for finding stuff on dusty shelves, closet floors, or in dumpsters. (I myself have scored some coups by intercepting material on the way from my local Family Video Store to the landfill.) How else can you explain the hodgepodge of possibly dump-bound bits presented here? Bugs Bunny shilling for Tang, Kool-Aid, and Post Sugar Crisp Cereal, and telling Vietnam Era military high school recruits that under the U.S. Army's "Choice" Program, they'll surely be able to fill their tours by dating hot French chicks in Paris, France?! Dr. Seuss contending that sailor's slips of lips are broadcast from German spy gals' nips directly to Hitler?! Warner getting an Oscar for a Public Service Announcement informing America that 118,481 U.S. babies are to die in 1950?! Since this seemingly in-house video ends with a plea for viewers to find and dust more ancient Warner Ware, I assume that they're short of janitors. I'm willing to volunteer a week of my time next January, which should give Warner a golden opportunity to send me a plane ticket!

"Toonheads: The Lost Cartoons" is interesting to watch just because we get to hear some of the history of the Looney Tunes. But I wish to assert that the unremembered cartoons aren't remembered for a reason. They ranged from boring (nothing really happened in "Cryin' for the Carolines") to hokey ("So Much for So Little" has unfortunately proved quite far from reality), and of course some of the stuff from WWII was pretty racist. It didn't help that the narrator spoke in pure reverence of everything.
So, it's neat to learn the history of Bugs, Daffy, Porky and that whole crowd. But the documentary would have come out more interesting had they talked only about those. Don't make it your first choice.

This Cartoon Network special can be found as an extra on disk 3 of the "Looney Tunes Golden Colection Volume 1" and is certainly a mixed bag of old "lost" cartoons.Contain greats like the Private Snafu short "Spies" and "Drafty, isn't it?" The lackluster propeganda of "Anys bonds today?" and "So much for so little" (the latter actually making me mad, the former just being boring). And the sheer crappiness of "Cryin' for the Carolines" and the much-deserved canned pilot "Philbert". So definitely a mixed bag, but I'm leaning towards telling you to save your time. If you DO watch it just skip to the two great shorts that I've mentioned.
