The French Big Lebowski
sheyossarian15 September 2013
I predict that this movie, once more people discover it, will become a cult classic. It is absurd and dark and slapstick and superficially quite silly, but actually insanely clever. There are moments in this movie where I had to pause the DVD because I was laughing so hard. I don't smoke at all, but like the Big Lebowski, I can see this movie becoming really popular as a stoner flick. There is subtle political commentary, but above all, this movie is memorable for its idiosyncratic characters, ridiculous plot turns, and hilarious one- liners and gags - again, a lot of the humor is dark. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

A European Perspective on America
Ali325 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
After having tried unsuccessfully numerous times to become an American citizen, Francis recruits the help of a lawyer who tells him that the best way to become American, is to live like an American. Francis then begins to live eat and sleep American. Football teams are formed, not to mention that the neighbourhood is turned into the 51st state, at the dismay of the American government. This comedy is a clever satire of current events and American films that is truly hilarious and not often subtle. "L'Americain" should not be restricted to French-speakers as anyone remotely familiar with American politics and culture will enjoy it.
