. . . the proverbial horse's mouth concerning the origins of the Pink Panther cartoon character. Relying upon interviews with the three surviving--as of 2003--producers and a script supervisor never credited during the initial 62 Pink Panther animated shorts, THE CARTOON PHENOMENON includes a few bits of new "framing" animation, and some brief clips from this cartoon series--the longest of which is from the initial stand-alone offering, which was the only Pink Panther episode to win the award for "Best Animated Short." The clips also include a bit of the beta outing for this animated feline character, during the main credits of its namesake live-action feature.

Warning: Spoilers
. . . BEHIND THE FELINE is that Warner Brothers forced employees whose names sounded too ethnic in the 1900's to change them, so as to sound less Communist. This seems to violate the American Principle of Truth in Advertising. Is it fair to mislead the Paying Public that some pinko is named "John Smith," when his actual birth moniker is 40 letters in length? American is an improvement on Ye O-l-d-e English language because it says what it means, and means what it says. American rejects the sort of polyglot lingo that gets foreign countries into trouble. Only gangsters such as the RESERVOIR DOGS dudes are brazen enough to co-opt decent names like Mr. Green, White or Tan. U. S. Residents are allowed to try to keep up with the Jones', but NOT to become the Jones!
