Massive Potential, but didn't quite come together

I felt that there was so much potential in this project, but it didn't quite solidify into a strong, cohesive unit. The title sequence, featuring a rat running through a model of the city, was amusing and interesting (as a sort of summation of this man and his world) and then the viewer is thrust right into the story. No exposition at all (that's not necessarily a bad thing, in fact I quite liked it), we are thrust directly into a self and societal contemplative journey, reminding me very much of Darren Arnofsky's "Pi".

---------SPOILERS AHEAD------------------ This short goes very well up until it's conclusion, which was far too abrupt, without much establishment or character development. I understand it's a short, and that creates a definite challenge in establishing full and interesting characters, but I didn't quite get or buy the "This world is f*cked up!" line and then *poof* he's a pile of sand. I would still recommend this movie despite it's short comings, as I enjoyed it and this Berton Pierce does show some great promise as a director.
