Maigret on the French Riviera
searchanddestroy-128 October 2015
Not a charmless episode taking place in Antibes, South of France, where a sort of wealthy Australian was found dead in his garden, buried only a few inches under the ground by the two women with whom he lived. Yes, two women: mother and daughter, two Italian females who appeared not guilty of the man death. They buried him after his death because of a knife wound. So the problem for Maigret was to find how and who killed the man. A rather touching story with a tremendous performance from Ginette Leclerc, as a bar owner. This French actress often played such supporting characters in her long career: bar tenders, prostitutes or gang molls. Never lead characters because, during WW2, she collaborated more or less with the German movie industry in France.
