Disappointing documentary.

Warning: Spoilers
Hellbound: Hellraiser II - Lost in the Labyrinth is a 17 minute documentary (less than 15 minutes if you exclude the credits) that is featured on various editions of the Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) DVD & a disappointing little documentary it is too.

A companion piece to Hellraiser: Resurrection (2000) which was a very similar documentary about the the original Hellraiser (1987), in fact the interviewees here are more or less the same people, they wear the same clothes & are filmed in the same locations so both documentary's were obviously shot at the same time. Anyway, this has no behind the scenes footage, there's still no sign of Clare Higgins who plays Julia & this time no one imparts any information worth mentioning. This is tired & instantly forgettable stuff that barely touches Hellbound: Hellraiser II or it's production.

There are a couple of montages of clips edited together that just play over the films theme music which I guess are there to pad the running time out & that says everything I suppose. Even at 15 minutes in length it feels padded with random clips from the film itself, I can't help but feel this is a missed opportunity & I didn't really know anything more about Hellbound: Hellraiser II after I had finished watching this.

As a free extra many might say it's good value & I can't argue with that but I know for a fact many people buy so-called special editions of films on DVD when they already have a bare-bones edition for the extras & anyone who upgraded their bog standard Hellbound: Hellraiser II DVD's & are given this as the main featurette will be annoyed if they're anything like me.

Entertaining But Way Too Short

Hellbound: Hellraiser II - Lost in the Labyrinth (2000)

*** (out of 4)

This seventeen-minute documentary has a great number of cast and crew members from HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II yet it says very little. Clive Barker, Tony Randel, Peter Atkins, Doug Bradley, Ashley Laurence and Christopher Young are just a few of the people interviewed here and for some reason no one really says too much. If you're a fan of the film then you'll obviously want to watch this and especially if you're like me and just enjoy watching people discuss movies. With that said, with so many people involved it's rather shocking that this thing was so short. It's so short that you really don't get any great details about anything in the production and in the end you really don't learn too much about the film other than no film is perfect.
