Worth every penny!

The Magical Girl genre was never a favorite of mine, probably because most of the series in it are exactly like each other. So when I came across Magical Play, I was hesitant at first, but I eventually gave in. I am glad that I gave in.

Okay, The main characters are Padudu, a girl who has magical powers and wears a fish (yes, it's alive), Pipin, Padudu's "rival" who has a giant plush bunny, and Myumyu, a girl who wears two cats.

As far the bad guys go, there are only two. Queen Purilun, (obviously) the queen of whatever planet/alternate dimension this wacky story takes place on/in, and Zucchini, the young boy (I'm guessing he's 13-14 years old) who is the queen's servant. His job is to spy on Padudu and her friends (which is hard for him, since he has an obvious crush on Myumyu and is always drooling and getting nosebleeds over her).

Sounds generic, huh?

Well, there is one thing that sets MP apart from the rest: The plot goes NOWHERE! It has no plot! But it has some hilarious stuff. Padudu's stupidity, Pipin's... voice, Myumyu's cats, and Zucchini's nosebleeds are some of the hilarity that makes this anime what it is.

If you get the chance to watch/buy this, do not pass up the opportunity! This is simply wonderful.

pretty genius

Magical Play is a satire of "Magical Girl" animes. Padudu and her traveling companion/fish suit, Okochi travel around the world trying to gain flower marks. As she proceeds through her journey to become a magical girl, she meets up with rivals/friends Miss Pippin and Myumyu and general wackiness ensues. Anyway, that's the basic plot, the colors are bomb, the music light and absurd. And the show is really funny. I know most Anime dorks hate Magical Play, but it really is a great parody of all of those blah Magic Girl shows. The stories are vignette style and they all connect, yet don't connect.(another genius move by the show.) It is truly worth seeing and all 4 episodes are great.(The bonus 3-D episode is not as good.) More Magical Play needs to be made!
