this movie is perfect if you're not interested in the logistics of a good film, but if you're interested in pure entertainment. there is one scene where the main character (leslie) is in the middle of a shoot out with the local police officers for being a crazed serial killer... and in the midst of flying ammunition and explosions, he appears of out his garage, turns on some loud heavy metal and starts head banging beside the speaker for a few seconds. it's not a film for critics, but a film for anyone looking for a laugh and some soft core porn scenes. i'm still not entirely sure as to the director's real direction with the film, but i am sure that the movie is worth a shot if you're down with indie-film humor.

"That's a hell of a lot of blood!"

This is a bad, dumb movie all right, but it's foolishness should not be confused with laziness. Self-produced for mid-four figures and subsequently stolen outright by Ted Rogers (who must have got a lovely tax break for 'promoting Canadian artists', I hope he's warm in hell), the commitment and enthusiasm that went into this is obvious. While the shot-on-video images are not pretty, they are visible, and though the DOP apparently had a habit of rewinding the tape and erasing key scenes, it basically follows the rules of montage and screen direction, if a little heavy on the master shots. No, what we have here instead is the most extreme lack of tonal control I think I've ever seen. At first it's a pretty grim, serious character study of a young burn victim who is scorned and neglected until he goes nuts and kills half the town. The pop psychology is completely useless: the usual 'he's crippled, therefore neuter, therefore a maniac'. But that's where the craziness starts, because it looks like Stoichevski himself figured out that an essay on the criminal mind was not going to sell much popcorn. So about halfway through, the misunderstood-guy brooding gives way to a completely mind-boggling slapstick autopsy. After which it's 100% sex and gore, sex and gore, increasing in intensity and outlandishness, tied together with two guys who I'm sure are a self-conscious burlesque of the ubiquitous Dumb Ass Detective: they are absolutely hilarious. Everyone is clearly having the time of their lives (except poor Paul, forced to take on the lead role when his actor dropped out). It even comes with a disclaimer. So, while it's basically unforgivable, it's also pretty great. See it with as large an audience as you can.
