Balancing between fiction and reality at a hostel in Berlin
robertostling23 February 2006
If all the people you love and care about were professional actors and you didn't know about it, would you like to be informed about it? Although this question is never posed in The Traveler, it is constantly in the background. There is a disturbing tension between reality and fiction in this highly interesting combination of fiction and documentary.

The Traveler is an impressive one-man show that gives a realistic account of life at a youth hostel in eastern Berlin. It captures the backpacking culture in a very authentic way (very far from for example The Beach).

The movie captures the mode of the traveler in good way -- it reminds me of the feeling in Jack Kerouac's On the Road. Travelling gives you a sense of freedom and it is a opportunity to ask all the big questions about life. But the freedom is temporary and must come to an end.

The "acting" is very good and it is impressing that all people in the movie are so natural in front of the camera.

This movie is well worth seeing!
