Being from Coquitlam, Terry's hometown, and having met many members of the Fox family, this really hit a nerve. With hometown pride and all, in schools they show a video about his life every year. I was glad to see a lot of the shots were recreations of archival footage I've seen a thousand times. It made it seem so real. But this movie did something that the school video couldn't. It delved into his life, when there were no cameras around. I didn't really realize how much pain he was in until I saw this. You just can't really tell what's behind the brave face from old news footage. Definitely something to see, it's both entertaining and inspiring (in a non-cheesy way).

I'd have to say it was a very well done movie. I do not know much about Terry Fox but I think Shawn did a good job of portraying what Terry must have been feeling during that time. I found out at the end of the movie that he died about 4 months after he completed that run. Possibly the hardship he endured getting thru the run sped his eventual decline. But yeah, good job Shawn. He is getting better and better at acting. I think people should see the movie, especially if you do not really know about Terry. By the way, if your are a crier, be warned, this movie will have you bawling. Keep a box of tissues nearby.:) As for the quality of the movie, I think they did a good job making it look and feel like you are back in the late '70s early '80s. All in all, I approve.

A more PC view of Terry's incredible feat that bonded many Canadians and thousands worldwide in a mutual battle. Still & all, got a little verklempt at how personable our hero was portrayed, his pain & endurance clear, but not in your face. Great re-enactments of archive footage for the benefit of a younger audience. A good docu-drama best viewed annually: like "Saving Private Ryan" on D-day, like "Braveheart" on Robbie Burns day, like "The Bells of St. Mary's" at Christmastide; to remind us of the emotional ties we have with the battles we wage. It's not so much the performance but the discussions or private thoughts that ensue.

I just finished watching Terry and it was such an inspiring movie.. I felt such warmth in my soul. Terry Fox is a true ICON for us Canadians. As I was watching "Terry", I got news that my town in Newfoundland raised just over $92,000 for the cancer society. I was so proud. It was such an amazing movie. There couldn't have been a better person then Sean Ashmore to play Terry. I cried while watching this movie and it wasn't because of his death, it was because of this life. He was an amazing man. I kept thinking while watching the movie how I sometimes complain just walking across the street to go to the store while this courageous man jogged as far as he could across Canada. I just can't tell you how full my heart feels from this movie. Good work to all those who helped make this movie and to the family and friends of Terry Fox, God Speed.

This is everything I like in a film. I watched this on TV, knowing it would be good, I was right. I talked to my friend Stephanie on the phone and we watched it together, we were both pleased! 1. The acting, I never knew Shawn Ashmore was so good. All I have seen him in was X Men, In A Heartbeat and a couple other things. Excellent acting. Even though Shawn and Terry's voices were nothing alike, GREAT MOVIE! 2. The story. Terry fox was a Canadian legend and hero and we remember him greatly. If only he was still here, he was a great person.
3. It shows how proud Canadians can be instead of all these Americans called us Canadians losers. We are good people.
This film deserves an Oscar. One of the best films ever made.

As a kid growing up I can remember Terry Fox. I can also remember taking part in the first Terry Fox run at my school when I was in grade 2. I think it's great that he's left such a legacy.
This is the second movie about Terry Fox I've seen. The first, "The Terry Fox Story" (1983) makes no bones about Terry's complicated personality and his sometimes strained relationships with those around him. It was well known that what drove Terry to take on a challenge such as this also made it difficult to be around him.
Fox's story in "Terry" seems accurate enough, but with the glaring omission of the more controversial sides of his personality. I think this is a shame, as it doesn't take away from his accomplishments at all but makes him more real, and to that end more people could connect to him rather than some nostalgic saintly version of him.
Terry Fox is a true Canadian hero and his story should continue to be told. Overall a fine made-for-TV movie, but check out the other version as well.

I really enjoyed this TV movie. Canadians do them up right! American movies of the week are a lot more schmaltzy.... This was beautiful! Shawn Ashmore made you believe he was Terry Fox! I especially loved how the relationship between himself and his best friend was portrayed. Nice cameo by Shauna MacDonald in the first half hour. Great shots of Canada. Well done. Hopefully this will be played again and again. It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since the marathon of hope. The whole thing was really believable. The props were great. It really felt like 1980. This was family friendly. It would be a really inspiring movie to show your kids.

Wow. Shawn did an amazing job of being Terry Fox. The movie was motivational, tasteful, authentic, and used very convincing digital editing. You'll definitely need some tissues though!

"Terry" is an excellent movie considering it was made for TV. It is about Terry's famous trek across Canada In hopes of raising money to find a cure for all the cancers. With his best friend and brother following him, he was determined to make it. It shows the hardships he had to face in order to try achieve his dream. There is also the occasional flashbacks of his past of why he wanted to run across Canada. This movie was made for the 25th anniversary of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope and its goal to raise money to defeat cancer. Shawn Ashmore does a good job portraying Terry Fox. This is truly a good movie that is worthy of being in theatres. I think everyone should see it, it will most likely move you!

The story of Terry Fox is truly remarkable, and this film is just as remarkably bad. It is poorly written and filmed and the acting is about as good as it was in those old high school educational films about hygiene. It is no tribute to Terry Fox that this one-dimensional character touches us as deeply as the words on a Hallmark Card. And the heavy-handed efforts to tell us that no one ever did this before and that people thought he was crazy for trying only undermine his real achievement. What was truly amazing was that a young man with no talent for sucking up to celebrities or promoting himself or ingratiating himself with the media, was nevertheless embraced so enthusiastically by the entire nation.
Truly makes me proud to be a Canadian

Just a fantastic movie about a man who was so selfless and so generous in his pursuit of curing cancer. It just brings me to tears when I think about what he did and sacrifice, it's very touching and moving. He didn't do this for any personal glory, he was just a man who felt that he could do something to raise money for cancer research and try to help out those who were worse off than himself. Terry Fox is so great because he was wise beyond his years and was so unselfish. Most people his age aren't concerning themselves about changing the world ( Terry wasn't either but now this is an annual event), most are worried about more trivial things in comparison. This TV movie does a great job of capturing Terry's perservering spirit. A great movie that I recommend to anyone who wants to watch a great story about a real man.

I loved the movie! It was so good. Those who haven't watched the movie yet, rent it!! Shawn is brilliant in this movie as he portraits Terry Fox. He is such an inspiration to all of us Canadians. He never thought of himself while he ran the Marathon of Hope, but only the children who suffered from cancer all over Canada. He has done such an amazing thing by running across Canada to raise money for cancer research that he gave the children hope that they will survive and that at least somebody cares about them and is willing to do something about it. His dream came true even after his death and his legacy lives on! For 25 years, millions of Canadians have done the Terry Fox run in honor of his memory and they've raised millions of dollars! "A dollar for each Canadian" Terry said, and his dream came true. Terry Fox truly is Canada's biggest hero.

I saw this movie at my school believe it or not!
I thought it was very very well done.
Shawn Ashmore was perfectly cast as Terry Fox by the way.
In my life, I have had some bad experiences with these kinds of movies but this one was different.
With this movie, it has substance, a good storyline, and a good cast which makes everything work just wonderful.
I thought it was very well done once again.
I also thought the cast was awesome, especially Shawn Ashmore-Terry Fox
The little bit of humor in this movie just made it perfect in my opinion.
Hats off to Shawn Ashmore and all of the crew for making a truly excellent film adaptation of the life of Terry Fox

You seem to have completely missed the point of the film. It was made 15 years after the event and to extend on the archived documentary footage with how his family was feeling and how his was feeling when the diagnosis was made would make it indifferent to every other cancer film made. The whole point of a film such as Terry was to show how inspirational he was, and to move people a decade later in the same way he did whilst running across Canada. Terry is a movie everyone should watch....(well at least all Canadians. It shows the spirit and strength Terry Fox had and it gives hope to us and everyone with cancer. Hopefully one day with everyones support we can cure cancer. The whole plot is CAN Terry make it across Canada and raise 24 million dollars for Cancer? Anyway well, Shawn Ashmore as Terry was perfect, he is so hot. And Noah Reid is very sexy as terry's little brother Daryl. I loved this movie and don't think there is a person out there who wouldn't. Well unless you are sensitive about cancer and amputee's. The crew did an awesome job making Terry's fake leg. THe whole thing is amazing. Terry just fought his way through his trials and troubles, It is inspiring.

The story of Terry fox has to be one of few Canadian stories worthy of cinema. In this second attempt at capturing not only one of Canada's greatest stories, but one of the world's greatest stories on film, CTV rushed out a made for TV abomination. Fresh on the heels of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's "Greatest Canadian" program which reminded Canadians of Terry's remarkable story, "Terry" offers nothing more than an amateur re-staging of documented events. Although lacking the necessary maturity, Ashmore's detailed and strong performance is not enough to save a script that offers nothing more to the televised events every Canadian knows. What was he like as a physically-abled youth? What was it like for him to discover he had cancer? What was that like for his family? What was it like to experience amputation? What drove him past potential depression through to being the most inspirational Canadian...ever? I don't know. I wish I did. Instead I learned that computers have the ability to make an actor with two legs look like he only has one. Good for you computers. Good for you.

I admit that it wasn't till about a couple months ago that I heard about him (Terry Fox) through a different YouTube channel that impressed me. I did my research as I usually do when a name grabs my attention and I say again that I never heard of him. I ended up watching a few documentaries on him and ordered the movie without a prewatch of it but I also like Shawn Ashmore as well. I was really impressed with the movie and do say that his courage was huge.
I think they left out a key point or two but for a 90 minute movie they did an amazing job. The relationship between Terry and his buddy Doug did take a beating and they were mainly not on speaking terms till his younger brother showed up and took some pressure off of Doug. I think that wasn't focused on hear but I understand why they tip toes around the topic as to pay honor to him. His cause was well above the call of duty but think he bit off more than he could handle too soon. I think this movie proved that matter and the help of the hotel owner who stepped in to help with donations was also well handled.
This movie I do say was powerful and the actor was well trained with Terry Fox and his cause. This movie I think could have been a touch better showing more of his struggle to achieve his goal and not focus so much on the running part. I think they should have had a bit of the pressure placed on their friendship and less on the scenes showing him running.
In all they did a great job in portraying Terry Fox and the positive attention he started receiving as he ran through bigger towns and cities. This is one movie I can proudly say was money well spent and it does a great job holding your attention. Shawn Ashmore did a great job and his portrayal of Terry was impressive.
