A nice reference to a Lev Tolstoi short story and Charles Dickens The Christmas story. A shoe maker, lonely, bitter, the mair looking for the best present for his daughter, a poor venerable lady and her granddaughter , a lady selling newspapers and , not the last, a crow and an angel.

And gifts, the most significant beeing a beautiful pair of red leather boots real special for the pieces used for them.

Charming end, useful moral, lovely simplicity.

Familiar drawings and the easy story are good tools for profound important message about gifts, importance of other, the visit of God to each of us - because the shoe maker is the symbol for our bitterness hour more than any Scrooge - and the seductive atmosphere of small town.

In short, itself, a precious gift for its audience.
