When your double is a dictator
mlbroberts6 November 2020
Rex Randolph has been reported killed in a plane crash, but his partners figure out the truth. He is a double for a Central American dictator and has been spirited out of the country to replace the dictator who has died of an illness. The plan is to have Rex killed in a more flamboyant scene so the dictator will be a martyr.

Drugged out for nearly a week, Rex wakes up thinking his partners have buried him, but in reality they have arrived to get him freed. Some nice highlights in this two-part series, including Roscoe in drag and Roger Smith playing the guitar and singing (and none of it is faked - he was a fine guitarist and singer). Richard Long drools like a real good drugged out hostage, too.

Ironically Richard Long - age 33 - suffered a heart attack before this episode aired and was hospitalized for a month. This may have been the first episode he filmed after coming back to work (so he didn't have to work very hard), and he only did one more before leaving the series due to his health. He recovered, to do two more series (The Big Valley and Nanny and the Professor) and a lot of film and tv work before succumbing to his heart problems at age 47.

Snoozeworthy

Warning: Spoilers
I watched the first part without falling asleep, and I think that's a compliment to my staying power. I mean, I thought that there might have been a chance that Rex, (T.W.D.) was actually dead. Ya can't win 'em all.

Jacqueline Beer is beautiful, as is Donna Martell, but I succumbed to blissful sleep about halfway through this second part. I awoke refreshed and happy in the knowledge that I had no idea how it ended; except to say that Rex probably survived.

I mean, let's be honest here: if he was any kind of detective, he would never let a few hundred dollars stop him from finding out if he really DID remember a beautiful woman from his past. Would YOU? Hell, no! However, I've said before that this is not a serious detective show, but one for pretty boys to show off in. One benefit is the fact that there are a lot of PRETTY GIRLS, too.
