Unexpected
zalewskimm11 July 2023
While many if not all of the episodes in the show's first 4-5 seasons are near perfect, this one ends in an unsettling way. With the death of a person from a car bomb. Archie's reaction is rather haunting, as is the quiet ending. Norm Lear outdoes himself here. Little things, details, are great. Archie has Mike stay on the line with the police while he sits down to eat. Mike's acting is really great in this episode. This one, and the episode where Gloria has a miscarriage are the rare ones that actually leave the viewer feeling sad at the end. Sometimes I'm just amazed at how truly excellent this show was and the live acting before an audience - how did they pull it off week after week?

Homo sapien? What's that?

Warning: Spoilers
Gregory Sierra (rare early non-accent) delivers a terrific performance. Carroll O'Connor and he worked magically together. Mike, Archie, and Paul debating good and evil, right and wrong mixed humor with stark reality masterfully. Sobering ending topped off one of many season 3 AITF classic episodes.

Warning: Spoilers
I cannot believe what I just seen a Nazi symbol on the door a Jewish man who comes to help a planted bomb and then the death of a character when his car blows up when they said that this show could get serious I didn't expect it to be like that.

The Bunkers and the swastika

Warning: Spoilers
The family finds a swastika painted on their door along with a threatening note, a member of a Jewish vigilante group offers his help.

An excellent episode, deftly blending the serious and the comedic. There is a very funny sequence where the family think a package sent in the mail is a ticking bomb,it turns out to be Edith's kitchen timer. Gregory Sierra appears as Jewish vigilante Paul Benjamin, it is one of the best performances by a guest actor in the history of the series. The shocking ending where Paul is killed by a car bomb is one of the most memorable of all time.
