We all know how much of a liberal Mike is and how he isn't afraid to let his feelings be known to all, especially Archie, but this episode has Mike competing for a university teaching position in Minnesota against a black man, who's a fellow teacher and a friend of Mike's. I found it slightly odd that Gloria had no reservations about moving considering how close she is to her family, at least her mother. Edith makes a funny comment about Minnesota being the place where "Mary Tyler Moore keeps losing her hat", and naturally Archie is against the possible move. I'm not normally a big fan of episodes which don't feature Archie exclusively, but I did enjoy the conversations between Mike and his friend, and with the dean. Mike mentions to his friend that his color won't exactly hurt his chances at landing the plum job, as they both feel reverse discrimination may be taking place. Soon after, the dean gives Mike the bad news about losing out on the promotion and he(dean)even mentions that Mike's color may've worked against him. David Downing and Lee Bergere also star and give solid performances in one of the better episodes not featuring Archie all that much or little of him.
