Edgar Guest and Sing Sing
stones7811 December 2013
This wasn't the most memorable episode in the stable of this great show, but it was much different than many others that I can recall. A prison called Sing Sing is promoting a work furlough program that has inmates working on the outside; in this instance, a convict named Nick Howard, who's played brilliantly by Cliff Osmond. He and Edith both share an affection for poet Edgar Guest, and although she's slightly surprised that he's a convict, he's welcome in her house, but not so much in Archie's house. Even though Archie has the usual funny lines here and there, the scenes with Nick and Edith are much better, and I felt awkward the way Archie tried to pleasantly get the convict "fired" from the furlough gig. This is one of the few times where Archie annoyed me a bit and ruined a good thing. He did convince Nick's plumber-employer to fire him, and it turns out that his friend, Barney Hefner, also complained because Archie exaggerated the truth. This has more of a serious tone, and the friendship that Edith and Nick share for a few scenes is the best part of this episode.

Episode died in the middle

Funny premise, but got forced when Archie appears. Archie made sense but the funniness stopped. Nick (Cliff Osmond) the inmate never should of been solo without a boss. Nor, alone with 2 women in the house as planned. He showed he was unbalanced how he waved the wrench dangerously close to Archie. The boss was way out of line. Carefree Mike was not on the ball as fearful Archie was.

Warning: Spoilers
Archie is mostly just a big talker .He says inapproriate things and isn't always the nicest guy and can hold some unpleasant views but he seldon will he actively do something that hurts another person. Here he does that and it's really disappointing when he's succesful at it .There really isn't much that can be said about this episode it does make me feel really bad for Edith while much of the time it can be overlooked in an episode like this you wish she really had married someone else. How she puts up with him when it gets like this reminds me that this happens in real life and not always to women .
