"Voice Analyzer" finds the 12th Precinct facing allegations of graft, bringing Lt. Ben Scanlon from Internal Affairs (George Murdock's fourth of 12 appearances) out of the woodwork, this time with the prototype of a lie detector machine. Ever cool Harris remains unperturbed, the sensitive Wojo naturally gets flustered, Dietrich is simply out of this world, and Barney...refuses to volunteer. The machine really only works in detecting lies told by Scanlon himself, yet another potential victory ending in defeat. Barry Pearl ("Grease") plays a thief who stole a car full of expensive furs, who accurately disputes the false $20,000 worth claimed by the victim (Allan Rich, first of three). Harris explains how they caught up to the stolen vehicle after he ran a red light ("hey, I've got convictions on my record like burglary, dealing drugs, assault with a deadly weapon, you expect me to obey the rules of the road?" Barney: "put this thing somewhere will you?" Harris: "hey Dillinger, in the chair!").
