Investigating the disappearance of a client and friend, Mannering uncovers a bizarre sect intent on defrauding its hapless followers.
The Baron is similar to the Saint, very English in its style, but what makes it unique is that the hero - Mannering - is an American. Steve Forrest plays him, though he lacks the charm of the Saint ( Roger Moore), he still has a likebility and he's little more hard boiled. He is assisted by Paul Ferris as his sidekick.
The opening is quite cool, with Jan Holden jumping in the lake, committing suicide, and there's enough witnesses to attest for that - conveniently a boat is seen. Witnesses think it has picked up the body. However, a dead woman is already on it, and Jan Holden climbs out quite alive. From there, it's quite intriguing with a hammy and menacing performance by Max Adrian, however it's not too remarkable.
