A sublime episode with a truly resounding message
Stevie246828 August 2021
Well-written and superbly acted, Charlie Harper, Winner is one of the best episodes of Bewitched. It teaches us a resonant and sincere message: No matter the amount of material possessions or gifts you have, money can never buy true love.

Unfortunately, in the later seasons of Bewitched and especially after Dick York was replaced, the show had less heart-warming and sensitive moments in exchange for cheap comedy and they could never capture the love of a married couple defying the odds so well like in the first three seasons.

Credit to writer Earl Barret who wrote my three favourite episodes of Bewitched including this one.

This episode made me fall in love with Bewitched.

To preface this review, I watched every second of all eight seasons and 254 episodes in order.

Before viewing this episode, I really liked Bewitched but couldn't say that I loved it. Charlie Harper, Winner made me fall in love with the series. Along with Going Ape and Divided He Falls, Charlie Harper, Winner is one of my top three Bewitched episodes.

Unpopular opinion

Warning: Spoilers
This is one I don't share the general view of. I find Charlie Harper and his wife boring not like the usual couples going through something. When that happens the couple is usually at least funny and often middle age . By the end you can at least see how things may have changed for them and how they work it out. Here we don't have the slightest notion Daphne would have actually changed despite what is said or why Charlie has stayed with her so long. Darrian and Samantha show unappealing sides too they should have just stayed home. Both want to compete with the Harper's more than they will admit to. The mink coat thing too has aged badly. I don't know why that was such a status symbol even back then . Not even Endora can save this one.
