I'm not sure how old the reviewer, silvermistvio, is.....but I myself have never considered Bewitched to be a show that requires "jokes" to make it thoroughly enjoyable.

It's all about the characters, human and otherwise; so it's all about a group of very talented actors and actresses. I've always only been a fan of the Dick York years, so I will not speak of the later seasons.

This episode was so enjoyable, so natural and so "human" concerning a couple moving into their new home together. Their love was so easy to see; and Endora always exuded pure class.

I also really enjoyed the nosy neighbors who kindly "inspected" the new couple's home......and let's not forget the little kids who got their comeuppance

A wonderful, warm episode; the kind of humor and warmth and love that keeps me coming back to this show year after year.

No joke. So sad.

One paragraph plot : Sam's neighbour who saw strange things in Sam's home previously wants to make sure she saw what she saw. So, she goes to Sam's home with two more friends and three kids. With a purpose, she starts to explore the house to find strange things. On the other hand, those three kids enter a room and meet Sam's mother, Endora which results getting tied up on the bed. A woman talking with Sam downstairs notices kids are very quiet, so, they get upstairs and check them out. They found those three kids got tied up and lying on the bed, but there's no one there. No one suspects about they were tied up by who, except Sam's neighbour. Then Sam's neighbour calls her husband and talks about it. Later, Sam wants her mother to meet her husband, Darrin. Sam's mother agrees and meets with Darrin. Unfortunately, Darrin doesn't want to see any magic in the house and wants to pass the days normally, the meeting is ended in a very bad shape.

This episode 4 is just a normal episode. There isn't any joke. As for the one waiting for some jokes to laugh, I was kind of disappointed. But the last scene in which Sam talked the sweetest words to Darrin, I kind of smiled. Because of that scene, the episode wasn't that much bad. But if they've put some jokes in this one, it'd be better. All in all, this episode is not that bad, but it's not that much good.

Darren meets Endora
gregorycanfield2 December 2021
One of the best things about this show was the way Endora intentionally called Darren by other names. She would come up with every male name that starts with the letter D, except for Darren. This is not done so much in this episode, but the animosity between Darren and Endora starts to develop almost immediately. Actually, Endora has a point. She asks: "Young man, why do you object to my daughter being who she is?" An absolutely valid question. Samantha obviously accepts Darren for who he is, and doesn't ask him to change anything. Why does Samantha have to change something about herself for him? Love should be unconditional. This is another example of how this show used fantasy situations as commentary for real-life issues. Great episode with excellent performances by all.

The episode that sets the tone for the series

Warning: Spoilers
This may be the best-written episode in the entire series. From Samantha's explanation of baseball, through the Welcome Wagon visit, to Endora's first meeting with "Dennis," this episode is solid. The climax with Darrin and Endora clashing sets up so much of what is to follow. That scene contains so much: Endora's feeling that her daughter has marred beneath her station; Darrin's hostility toward the use of witchcraft; the beginning of the conflict between mother-in-law and son-in-law; and some of the best lines in the entire series ("Consider yourself lucky that you are not, at this moment, an artichoke.").

I don't has much patience for fans who deride the later seasons and say that the early episodes are all winners. The truth is, there are great and awful episodes every season, with both Darrins. Having said that, this easily one of the best in the entire series.
