There is a new broom at the police station. Sergeant Bottle is new to the area and thinks the people in the countryside still stick to old pagan ways such as witchcraft.
With the theft of broomsticks in the area which are then found burnt. Suspicion falls on Sam who has just accidentally burnt a broomstick.
Sam thinks the sergeant has called round over his out of date car licence. Little knowing that the sergeant is out to get him and expose a coven of witches.
Carrot realises that this is all Catweazle's doing. Catweazle has been burning broomsticks in order to get back to his own time, unsuccessfully.
Now Carrot needs to persuade Catweazle to help Sam out.
Catweazle shows what a good shot he is with a bow and arrow. He also uses a spell to mesmerise Sergeant Bottle to act foolish.
Overall an episode with more than a hint of silliness. Sam certainly gets his wires crossed and I thought the resolution to it all was weak.
