Man with a murky past
bkoganbing6 March 2016
Dennis Patrick who back in my younger days seemed to be in just about every television series is Checkmate's client. Patrick plays a rich socialite with a murky past who hires Checkmate to protect him from the excesses of SFPD lieutenant James Whitmore who has a fixation about Patrick. Just how far Whitmore will go to nail Patrick for something, anything is for you to see. Checkmate sends in their sometimes operative Jack Betts as an undercover in the SFPD to keep tabs on Whitmore.

Usually Dennis Patrick played oily characters and it's no different here. He seemed to get parts that Jack Cassidy was offered, but was otherwise engaged. As for Whitmore he seemed for MGM to be the second coming of Spencer Tracy, he looked just like Tracy in his younger days.

It goes without saying that there is history that goes way back between these two guys.

This was an interesting Checkmate story because we're not sure until the end just who the good and the bad guy was and not even then in a larger sense.
