Esther Dale, long time big screen character actress gave a farewell performance as a warped and evil old woman who hates her daughter-in- law with a passion. She tries to hire the Checkmate team to prove by any means necessary to prove that Susan Oliver killed her son Don Oreck was murdered. The guys who give an honest appraisal of any situation they get into turn this down.
But worried that the crazy old woman might do something bad to Oliver they unofficially go to work for her. Turns out she really does have need for their services and Doug McClure will make sure it's given his personal attention.
Oliver is a daredevil of sorts and she gets McClure to go with her. When you take a job you see it through even though it brings back unpleasant memories of his time in the service.
There's also a brief scene with Maudie Prickett who is the manager of a woman's residential hotel where Oliver is parked for her safety. I always liked Prickett, she played those very severe women for laughs that Agnes Moorehead played for real. Maudie is always priceless.
